The main challenge was translating highly detailed, scientifically accurate paleoart into a modern visual language without losing its authenticity or character. It required finding the right balance between scientific credibility and stylistic abstraction, ensuring the illustrations remained recognizable and meaningful while adapting them into a consistent geometric system.
To build a brand that paleo enthusiasts would be proud to wear and collect, combining scientific accuracy with strong artistic direction. The aim was to transform detailed paleoart into a modern, geometric visual language while preserving its authenticity, creating a cohesive identity system that feels both credible to science and compelling as a lifestyle brand across apparel and packaging.
The process began with scientifically accurate skeletal and life reconstructions created by paleontologist and paleoartist dr. Scott Hartman, ensuring a strong foundation rooted in current research and anatomical correctness. These illustrations were then translated into a modern, scalable vector system, refining forms into a geometric low-poly style suited for contemporary merchandise and branding applications. The work focused on preserving scientific integrity while simplifying and stylizing the visuals for consistency, adaptability, and production across apparel and packaging.
Alongside the illustration system, the logo design was developed around the brand name “Permia,” referencing the Permian age, with a Dimetrodon chosen as the central symbol. The goal was to create a minimal but instantly recognizable logomark that captures the essence of the creature while maintaining clarity and scalability across all brand touchpoints.
