Challenges
& Objectives

/ Challenges

The main challenge was visually communicating complex flavor profiles and sensory experiences through highly simplified forms. The illustrations needed to feel expressive and informative without becoming overly literal, while maintaining consistency across a large collection of cocktails, ingredients, and mixology-related content throughout the book.

/ Objectives

To develop a cohesive illustration system that enhances the reader’s understanding of cocktails and flavor combinations through contemporary visual storytelling. The goal was to create imagery that feels fresh, sophisticated, and approachable, capturing the essence of each drink while supporting the book’s educational and editorial content.

Creative
Process

The process began by analyzing the ingredients, flavor notes, and characteristics of each cocktail. Rather than depicting every element realistically, the illustrations distilled these qualities into abstract compositions built from colorful soft gradients, layered color transitions, and simplified forms. Mixology equipment and cocktail setups were illustrated with the same minimalist approach, creating a unified visual language that could communicate both practical information and sensory experience. Particular attention was given to color relationships, allowing each illustration to evoke specific flavors, aromas, and moods.
